No state funds for Ride2School

Bicycle Network’s almost 20-year-old Ride2School program was not named in Sport and Recreation Victoria’s new Kids Active Travel Program funding announcement this week.

The state government program, which provided $680,000, will back four projects in Hume, Melton, Geelong and Bendigo. The SRV announcement says the program’s goals are to get more students walking, scooting and riding their bikes to school.

Bicycle Network launched a fundraising campaign to save our life-changing 18-year-old Ride2School program just over a year ago.

The program, which pioneered bike education workshops and neighbourhood route planning, had been funded by the Victorian government since 2006.

We have raised $102,535, hiting our $100,000 target to Save Ride2School but without government funds to keep us going, we can't stop there.

Ride2School has reached hundreds of thousands of students around the country and instigated National Ride2School Day, Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel.

Bicycle Network is a registered health charity, and we know the value of bikes and physical activity when it comes to preventative health.

We hope to work with local governments across Victoria and beyond to keep Ride2School operating. For more details, go to: Ride2School
