Plans for a recreational trail linking Woolamai and Nyora are inching along, and they could mean great things for bike riders far beyond the two regional localities southeast of Melbourne.
The 25km Woolamai-Nyora trail will serve as a key connection between the existing Bass Coast Rail Trail and the recently completed Great Southern Rail Trail through southern Gippsland.
It will also form part of the proposed Gippsland Odyssey Trail, a walking and bike riding network made up of routes across Gippsland to highlight the region’s environmental and cultural attractions.
Bass Coast Shire Council has partnered with the South Gippsland Shire Council on the Woolamai-Nyora trail, and has received funding from the Victorian Government to complete a feasibility study for the project.
It has previously held meetings with communities along the route, and is now seeking feedback from the wider community.
Take the survey at the project webpage here, or email your thoughts to: basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au
The feedback and ideas gathered through the consultation will help the council prepare a draft of the feasibility study, which it expects to share with the community in August.
The final feasibility study is slated for completion in late 2024.
