Riders along the Western Ring Road may face occasional disruption during the next six months as upgrade works proceed along the section between the Princes Freeway in Laverton North and the Western Freeway in Derrimut.
The project involves an extra northbound lane (replacing the shoulder), new ramp and ramp signals at Laverton North, and 10 new electronic signal installations for a new freeway smart management system.
Most of the work will be on the western side of the M80 but the electronic signs will require new overhead gantries across the road to the eastern side where the M80 Trail is located.
This may require temporary closure of the Trail while construction activities are underway.
No closures are imminent and Major Roads Projects and Bicycle Network will notify riders in advance. You can subscribe for updates here.
Soon the project will be setting up the site compound near the service centre on the eastern side of the freeway and will begin site investigation and surveying, and the setting up of temporary road safety barriers.
The crew will mostly work from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.
