Main Yarra Trail to close at Collins Bridge

Riders will face intermittent closures of the Collins Bridge on the Main Yarra Trail later this month.

Works at Gipps Street to replace the detested steps with a ramp down to the Yarra are well advanced and heavy steel ramp sections will soon be craned into position on the north side of the bridge.

The crane will need to swing across the Collins Bridge from time to time as there is no viable access for direct delivery. This will prompt the closures, which may last up to an hour.

A detour will be in place through Abbotsford from the Main Yarra Trail at Walmer Street through to Abbotsford Convent.

Traffic controllers will be in place to redirect pedestrians and bike riders and closures will be minimised during peak times.

This detour, which has been successfully used previously during works along the trail, takes riders along Victoria Street, Albert Street, Victoria Crescent, Gipps Street, Nicholson Street, Abbotsford Street, Clarke Street and St Helliers Street.

The intermittent closures of Collins Bridge will occur over 10 days from 26 August to 13 September (Monday to Friday only, between 9am and 4pm).

Riders should note that there will be another closure and detour of the Main Yarra Trail in September due to drainage works south of Victoria Street in Richmond. Full details will be provided closer to the date.
