Bay Trail diversion at Pier

Works on the new $53 million St Kilda Pier development will temporarily divert the route of the Bay Trail for the next eight weeks.

In the coming days, city-bound riders will be detoured around the Sea Baths car park, across Pier Road and around the site compound fence and back to Pier Road on a new asphalt surface.

Outbound riders will take the same route in reverse.

There may be occasional block and hold of riders as trucks visiting the worksite cross the detour.

The new pier and curved timber decking is in place and works on service connections, the beach ramp and the pavilion are underway.

The existing pier will be removed.

The pier design provides improved public space for more people, improved views of St Kilda and the city skyline, better protection and viewing area for St Kilda Breakwater's Little Penguins, a wider disability compliant walkway, new toilets, tiered seating and preservation of the heritage kiosk.

The pier is constructed from concrete and timber, extends about 450 metres and has a 50-year design life.

Parks Victoria is delivering the project in partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning.
