Detour on Main Yarra Trail

UPDATE: The Main Yarra Trail in Richmond has reopened this week and riders can look forward to some great rides along the River during the holiday season, and the Gipps Street work site will also be also unencumbered.

There will be an extended detour on the Main Yarra Trail in Richmond from next month, due to drainage works.

The public stormwater system in the River Street precinct close to the Yarra and the Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre is being replaced as the area is redeveloped.

The trail will be closed for about 10 weeks from 1 October, between Crown Street and Arcadia Walk, as machinery will be active adjacent to the trail.

A convenient detour will be in place, primarily along River Street, River Boulevard and Victoria Street.

Riders heading upriver will be diverted up the shared path ramp that leads to Crown Street, and then a short distance to River Street.

River Street is a quiet local street with a cut-through to River Boulevard nearer to Victoria Gardens. Riders can connect back to the trail at Walmer Plaza via Victoria Street and the Walmer Street intersection.

Coming downstream, riders will be detoured at Walmer Street Bridge.

Signage will be installed around the area to guide pedestrians and riders.
