Welcome to spring riding

Spring is finally here after a chilly winter so getting out on your bike is a great way to enjoy the warmer weather. As well as our social rides this fortnight don’t forget our Ambassador rides are available for you to download at any time to enjoy across the state.

Flight of the Folders – Saturday 14 September

Folding bikes are a useful addition to any cycling stable and to celebrate their versatility the Flight of the Folders to MONA will be held on Saturday 14 September.  

Meet ride leader Di at 9.45am at the Cenotaph car park off McVilly Drive to head out along the Intercity Cycleway to MONA and back.

E-bike Coffee Club: Hobart City Cycle – Thursday 19 September 

The E-bike Coffee Club’s Hobart City Circle ride on Thursday 19 September is an introduction to some of the shortcuts and easier routes to get around Hobart. 

Meet ride leader Di at 9.45am in the car park at 210 Collins Street for the 14.5km ride on paths and quiet streets with coffee afterwards at Hamlet Café.

Crabtree Crawl – Saturday 21 September 

The Crabtree Crawl on Saturday 21 September takes in some of the best sites in the Huon Valley, including the Sleeping Beauty Mountain Range, old hop kilns and orchards. 

Meet ride leader Jack at 9.45am at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed at 2064 Huon Highway in Grove. The 24.6km route is mostly on quiet roads but there is a short section on Huon Road with fast-moving traffic.  

There will be a stop for coffee at the Summer Kitchen bakery and drink or lunch after at Willie Smith’s.

The Mighty Eastern Shore Challenge – Saturday 28 September 

Ride leader Brian is back with one of his Mighty Eastern Shore Challenges on Saturday 28 September. 

Meet him at 9.45am at the Geilston Bay Boat Club car park on De Bomford Lane for the 42km circuit on sealed and unsealed bike paths, quiet local roads, private track and bush trails. 

There are six gates where bikes have to be lifted over and some challenging terrain so make sure your bike is suitable. BYO lunch and drinks, but there will be a stop for coffee at the Shoreline at the 30km mark.

Meet ride leader Roger at the Forth Recreation Ground for an 11am departure, setting off along the river towards Cradle Mountain. 

There will be several options on the day, including a relaxing route along flat ground and a pedal up to Melrose for those who fancy some climbing.

The ride will be followed by a BYO lunch back at the Recreation Ground, with nearby takeaway options including the servo or Nifty's Cafe.

Upcoming rides & events 

COVID-19 guidelines   

Our social rides leaders follow a set of protocols to help make our rides safer:   

  • Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 metre to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.   
  • Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.    

People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose or are in mandated isolation.
