Time to make a difference in your neighbourhood
Are there streets in your local neighbourhood that could be made safer, more pleasant and easier to walk or ride through?

Would you like to do something about it?

Victorian council election nominations opened this week and members of the Streets People Love campaign are working to survey and rate candidates.

The goal is to encourage people standing for local government elections to consider and commit to creating liveable communities as they nominate.

Campaign members include grassroots community organisations, supported by Bicycle Network, and more help is needed to ensure candidates across 78 Victorian electorates are surveyed (no elections will take place in Moria Shire).

The campaign is looking for volunteers in local government areas including: Banyule, Bayside, Brimbank, Cardinia, Casey, Colac, Dandenong, Frankston, Glenelg, Hepburn, Hindmarsh, Horsham, Indigo, Queenscliff, Knox, Loddon, Manningham, Maroondah, Melton, Mildura, Monash, Moyne, Shepparton, Warrnambool, West Wimmera, Whitehorse, Whittlesea, Wyndham and Yarriambiack.

The Streets People Love website went live this week and, if you enter your address, you will discover whether candidates in your local government ward have been surveyed. If not, you can find out who your local candidates are by checking your local council website, and email them the survey.

The website also contains resources to help you run a campaign in your local government area including the survey tool, social media images, media release templates and more.

Candidates will be rated on the website as they complete the survey, and this will help other voters in your electorate make their choice.

Candidate nominations close on Tuesday 17 September and ballot packs will be mailed to voters in all electorates from Monday 7 October.

Voting in 2024 Victorian Council elections is by post only and closes at 6pm on Friday 25 October. Postal votes must be received by 12pm on Friday 1 November.
