The Queensland Government has invested a further $1 million to encourage even more residents to use sustainable transport, after its newly introduced E-Mobility Rebate Scheme proved wildly popular and was exhausted in a matter of days.
The scheme was introduced on 23 September to provide e-bike buyers with a $500 rebate towards the purchase price of eligible vehicles. $200 rebates were also on offer for eligible e-scooters.
Queenslanders responded in force, submitted 860 rebate applications within the first three days.
The government says that applicants indicated the main reasons for buying e-bikes and e-scooters were to replace car trips, increase fitness, save money and care for the environment.
It hopes the additional $1 million investment will continue reducing congestion and encouraging people to get active.
“Encouraging more Queenslanders to take advantage of new forms of transport gets cars off our road, and more people enjoying our great active transport routes,” says Transport Minister Bart Mellish.
Now, our government is offering a Queensland-first rebate to encourage the uptake of e-bikes or e-scooters. E-scooters and e-bikes are becoming a popular alternative form of transport to support the first-last mile journey to public transport or travelling short distances.
The rebate scheme is a part of the Queensland Government’s Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy 2022-2032, and follows similar schemes introduced in Tasmania, and at a local government level in Adelaide.
Bicycle Network is continuing to advocate for financial incentives that help more Australians own and ride e-bikes. You can read more on our campaign page here.
