99 Bikes sets up in Hobart

A national player in the local bike market has opened its doors in Hobart, providing different options for people who ride, or want to.

The distinctively red 99 Bikes store is due to open on 25 October at 125 Murray Street.

It will have about 200 bikes on the floor and more in stock, making it one of the biggest bicycle shops in the state, and aims to open seven days a week.

Store manager Adrian Brooks has come over from Perth WA to get the operation up and running and enjoy all Tassie has to offer.

He says the company had taken out a 10-year lease on the site and is planning to be in the state so was in it for the long haul.

Mechanics will be on the floor most days to handle booked services and small walk-in repairs.

The business is a large national retailer, with a warehouse in Melbourne holding up to three months worth of stock, which means a the wait on parts is usually less than a week.

99 Bikes is the Australian distributor of the German Cube bicycles, which covers mountain, road, commuter and e-bikes, including a cargo e-bike. It also stocks brands sold in Tasmania, including Merida, BMC and Norco.

However, 99 Bikes is the only retailer of Pedal bikes, which provide entry-level models across all bike styles.

Brooks hopes to offer community engagement services offered by 99 Bike stores that are popular interstate, including come-and-try days for e-bikes.
