Perth's winding sculptural bike riding and walking bridge, stretching across the Swan River and Heirisson Island, will be open to active travel in just a few weeks.
The 1km-long Boorloo Bridge will carry 3000 pedestrians and bike riders across McCallum Park, Heirisson Island and Point Fraser daily. It features a 52-metre-high boomerang pylon and 46-metre-high digging stick pylons and is named after the Noongar word for Perth.
The $140 million project, co-funded by the WA and federal governments, consists of two cable-stayed bridges and was previously known as the Causeway Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge. Construction began in 2023.
The two S-shaped curves of the bridge represent the movement of the Waugyl (Rainbow Serpent) and the structure will feature state-of-the art lighting capable of displaying moving images.
Public art, seating, rest points and the planting of around 100,000 native trees plants and shrubs will enhance the dramatic structure.
