Not only is the Mornington Peninsula a great holiday and weekend getaway destination, but it is also attractive to live there and many bike riders make it their home. Making it along the roads on a bike, however, can take the smile off your face.
Active transport infrastructure is lagging, traffic speeds are high, and the trail network still has missing links.
In the holiday peaks, congestion can be horrendous with everyone trying to drive on local trips that could be taken by bikes or walked. But then there are many streets without footpaths.
The shire is now planning a new integrated transport strategy and wants to hear from residents and visitors about how they get around, with an initial round of consultation underway.

This is your chance to share what you think should be included in the strategy, from safer cycling routes to reducing congestion.
There is a drop a pin map and a survey available to give your feedback.
You can drop pins to leave comments pointing out where you think changes are needed – whether it’s fixing a tricky intersection, improving walking paths, or making it easier to get to public transport.
Topics include:
- Speed limit concerns
- Traffic congestion
- Road enhancements
- Parking issues
- Ease of access
- Public transport
- Walking environment

There are also some in-person chat sessions scheduled:
Rye Foreshore Market, Saturday 7 December, 7.30am-1pm
Bittern Sunday Market, Sunday 15 December, 7.30am-1pm
This consultation closes on 17 December 2024, but the council will be back next year with a draft strategy seeking further input.
