Liverpool St completes Hobart bike lanes

A new bike lane on one block of Liverpool Street has completed the Hobart Council's Campbell-Argyle streets bike lane project.

The lane outside the hospital joins Argyle and Campbell streets and is another bollard-separated lane, similar to those on Bathurst and Campbell streets.

The council has started to monitor bike rider numbers with a counter on the Campbell Street bike lane.

Popular map downloads tweaked

Two of our most popular ride maps have had a few tweaks to incorporate infrastructure improvements.

The 13km Orielton Lagoon ride has a few more off-street route options thanks to new housing estates, and the Margate Snug Discovery ride now includes a loop taking in Snug River thanks to the new bridge and path, and adds the tasty Appelflap cafe as a coffee option.

Download both maps from https://ridewithgps.com/ambassadors/414-bicycle-network-tasmania. Bicycle Network members can also download the audio prompts.

Kingborough updates its transport strategy

Kingborough Council is updating its integrated transport strategy and is looking for feedback before 5 March.

The council has a cycling plan but this strategy puts those actions into a wider context, especially when it comes to linking to public transport.

“Council does appreciate the community’s desire for an improved active transport network, and note that this will in turn encourage more active transport use,” a spokesperson for council says.

Work started on Pipeline Track extension

Hobart Council has started work on an extension of the Pipeline Track, which will provide a rideable connection to the Waterworks Reserve.

The current Pipeline Track can only be accessed from the reserve by riding the rough fire trail or dismounting and walking up the steep Gentle Annie Falls track.

The 2.3km extension will follow a gentler gradient and match the width of the rest of the track to be suitable for prams and bicycle riders and is due to be finished in May 2025.
