New Ballarat local link

The completion of a 1.2km shared path from Victoria Park, past Morshead Park to Sutton Street has provided a much needed high-quality bike connection to Ballarat’s southern suburbs.

Included in the works are six raised pedestrian crossings, seating, tree planting and solar lighting.

It is part of the City of Ballarat’s Trails and Connections project, which focuses on improving connections in some of the city’s networks, particularly in the Redan and Delacombe areas.

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves says connecting trails in Ballarat help support an active and healthy community.

“As Ballarat grows, it is important that both locals and visitors can get around safely and comfortably, whether they are walking, cycling or driving,” she says.

“It’s great to see such a well designed and constructed path for all people to use in this busy area.”

The $968,000 city design project was fully funded by the City of Ballarat.

Other projects to be delivered as part of the Trails and Connections project are:
• A connection to and within Doug Dean Reserve via Whitelaw Avenue from the completed trail next to Sutton Street.
• A loop trail around Morshead Park from the Sutton Street trail, along Rubicon Street, Pleasant Street and Bell Street.

Design work is now underway for the stages to connect Doug Dean Reserve, Glenelg Highway and Pleasant Street along Rubicon Street.

The linkages aim to provide easy access to open spaces and outdoor destinations. They also aim to create environmental pathways enabling flora and fauna to connect to other habitat areas.
