Bellerive ferry terminal to get secure bike parking
Clarence Council has approved a development application to upgrade the Bellerive ferry terminal, which includes secure, undercover bike parking.
Electronic bike parking docks will be placed in an enclosed building next to the ferry wharf. There will also be some standard hoops for people who don’t want to use the secure docks.
These kinds of docks are used frequently throughout New Zealand and in some European and North American cities and are popping up in Australia in Perth, Sydney and on the Gold Coast.

Minister open to 30km school zones
Transport Minister Eric Abetz says he has an open mind about introducing 30km/h speed limits in school zones.
Mr Abetz made the comments while launching this year’s 40km/h school zone awareness campaign.
The evidence is clear that 30km/h speed limits could reduce the number of children who suffer serious injury or death. 30km/h is the recognised speed limit around the world for areas with high numbers of vulnerable road users, including children.
Prices honoured with bench on Coastal Pathway
Long-term Bicycle Network volunteer Keith Price and his wife Lynne have been honoured for their contributions to Burnie with a bench plaque alongside the Coastal Pathway.
Keith has been a driving force in getting the Coastal Pathway built, lobbying local, state and federal governments over several decades.
He is also well known for volunteering with Park Run and other sporting clubs and Lynne founded a program to introduce school students to stringed instruments and secured funding for the Burnie Netball Centre as well as supporting and building the arts community.
Thanks to mayor Teeny Brumby for the photo of Keith and Lynne on the bench dedicated to them.

Dial Range improvements for MTBers
Central Coast Council has started work on new toilets and a servicing and washdown station for mountain bikes using the Dial Range. Work is due to finish in the middle of this year.
There will be some disruption to the car park on Montgomery Road during the work so car pooling may be in order for the next few months.
