Construction of a new bus stop at the Queen Victoria Market in Queen Street has temporarily closed the bike lane on Peel-William Street.
Bikes heading southbound towards Franklin Street will find the bike lane fenced off, with signage directing them to join the traffic lane.
Traffic controllers are in place to hold traffic while riders make the transition into traffic for a short distance before rejoining the bike lane.
The new accessible bus stop will realign the existing bike lane around the back of the new stop.
Works are being carried out between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, until the middle of 2025. Some nightworks will also be required by Yarra Trams and CitiPower to relocate essential infrastructure such as tram poles and traffic lights.
Access to nearby businesses, residential properties and the market, will be maintained at all times.
Vehicles are unable to travel eastbound to Queen Street from William Street and the left turn into Franklin Street has been closed to vehicles.
The existing bus lane has been sectioned off as the work site and the bus stop is temporarily relocated to the corner of William and A’Beckett streets.
These works are part of the Transforming Franklin Street project – aimed at improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians and commuters – that will transform the street during the next few years.
