A concrete bridge with railings spans a calm waterway.
Bridge works to divert Maribyrnong River Trail

Riders along the Maribyrnong River Trail may encounter minor diversions at Maribyrnong as works get underway to strengthen the Raleigh Road Bridge.

As the trail goes under the road bridge, when crews are working on the underside of the bridge deck, pedestrians and bike riders may be required to detour across Raleigh Road via the pedestrian crossing over Raleigh Road, Clyde Street and Anglers Way.

Works are expected to be underway until mid-June.

Onsite signage will be in place to alert users to changed conditions.

Riders will notice scaffolding will be installed below the bridge over Maribyrnong River and a site compound with temporary fencing on the riverbank at Anglers Way (opposite the Chifley Drive).

Pedestrian and bicycle detours will be in place around the site compound and worksite.

The bridge is being upgraded to carry the next generation trams on routes 57 and 82, operating from the new tram depot under construction at Maidstone.

The works, which also include maintenance on the concrete beams and columns, will ensure the bridge remains structurally safe once heavier trams begin operation.

Only one span will be open below the bridge to on-water river users at times. On-water exclusion zones and signage will be in place to alert rivers users to changed conditions.

Some low-level construction noise is expected during daytime working hours with trucks, people and specialised equipment working near the site.
