South Australia has announced the latest State Bicycle Fund projects, with 14 councils receiving $2 million in grants to design or construct bike infrastructure.
More than $1.9 million is going to 17 projects ready for construction and $75,000 has been set aside for design for 4 projects.
South Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Tom Koutsantonis, said the Bicycle Fund is about making cycling a safer and more appealing choice.
“Through improving and expanding our network of bike paths, we’re investing in healthier, more connected, and environmentally friendly communities,” he said.
Adelaide City Council Lord Mayor, Dr Jane Lomax Smith, said cycling is becoming increasingly important to become a more climate resilient city.
“Encouraging more cyclists to commute to work or visit the city helps activate alternative transportation to cars and other carbon producing vehicles,” she said.
“These grants will further improve safer cycling access into and from the city, especially through the Park Lands and North Adelaide.”
