It’s been a busy few weeks heading into March with Bike Week and other events happening around the state so we’ve wrapped them up in one package to report back to you!
Bike Week
Launceston reigned supreme in the Bike Week activities this year, offering rides and activities most days. A tweed ride, ride the night and history rides were features while Hobart offered its monthly Queens view e-bike ride followed by a coffee catchup with other riders. Other groups also joined the Bike Week fervour with Eudaimonia Tasmania Cycling Tours offering group rides and maintenance workshops and the Hobart Wheelers running their Kunanyi Challenge time trial.

Back on your Bike with 99 Bikes
Our Back on your Bike program teemed up with the 99 Bikes store in Hobart to stage a mini e-bike expo for students at the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus during Bike Week. Students got to test-ride a mix of electric bikes around the basketball courts and get some help on riding style from our instructor Andy.

Super Tuesday
We saw an unusually warm March morning for the Super Tuesday bike count this year, leading to a good number of riders hitting the streets in Hobart. Counts were also done in Devonport and Launceston – we look for forward to seeing the numbers after all the data is crunched and double checked.

Ambassador ride updates
Our volunteer social ride leaders have been heading around the state to add new rides and update existing rides. We’ll tell you about a new Ambassador route that’s been added soon but in the meantime, check out their exploration of new paths in Legana as part of an update for the North East Wineries Tour ride.

Ride2School Day
Lindisfarne North Primary School got into the spirit of Ride2School Day with smoothies and fun before school on Friday 21 March. While Cooee Primary School prepared with two days of rider skills workshops in the week leading up to the day and volunteers helped students cross the highway on Ride2School Day.

Hobart Sustainable Living Festival
Bicycle Networks Back on your Bike program was at the Sustainable Living Festival in South Hobart on Saturday 22 March, booking in people to get riding again and giving current riders tips. We’re also heading to Ecofest in Ulverstone on 5–6 April, drop in and say hi if you’re around!
