You Yangs trail upgrades

The renowned Epic Loop Trail is to be extended as part of a multi-million-dollar upgrade of the You Yangs Regional Park.

The trail will be extended between Toynes Road and the Stockyards car park to give mountain bike riders a longer, complete track.

Other improvements include an uplift of the picnic area with new seating, barbecues, picnic tables and pathways that provide better accessibility for visitors, and with a hardstand area to accommodate food trucks.

Works will upgrade toilet blocks and the wastewater treatment system to accommodate increased visitation.

Parks Victoria will also improve the park entrance with safer road access and new gates, fencing and signage. And it will expand and remodel the car park to improve traffic flow, create designated parking for vehicles and buses, and improve access for people with diverse abilities.

The proposal is part of plans to upgrade the park at the You Yangs as well as the nearby Serendip Sanctuary.

The You Yangs Regional Park and Serendip Sanctuary are popular areas for wildlife viewing, education and outdoor recreation – including mountain biking, horse riding, rock climbing and abseiling, trail running, bushwalks and picnics.

The landscapes and wildlife are spectacular.

Parks Victoria are seeking community feedback on the plans.

You can view draft concept designs and concept images, and provide feedback through a survey. There is a pop-in session at the YouYangs on Thursday 17 April, 4–6pm.

Victorian Minister for Environment, Steve Dimopoulos, said the plan would boost visitation to the region and provide local communities access to green spaces.

“Whether you’re a student at Lara Primary, an avid mountain biker or keen a bird watcher – the You Yangs and Serendip Sanctuary have something for everyone, and our $11 million investment will strengthen this,” he said.

Works will be staged and delivered through to mid 2026.
