Long-distance gravel trail opens in Western Australia
Gravel riding enthusiasts have a fantastic new long-distance trail in Western Australia, with the Shire of Gnowangerup launching the Wild Gravel Trail.

Offering a scenic 440km loop that is over 90% gravel, the trail passes through eight towns with many more in close proximity.

The route is split into six stages: Gnowangerup to Ongerup (57km, climbing 279m), Ongerup to Bluff Knoll (72km, climbing 388m), Bluff Knoll to Mount Barker (85km, climbing 1176m), Mount Barker to Cranbrook via Kendenup (45km, climbing 294m), Cranbrook to Katanning via Tambellup and Broomehill (85km, climbing 369m), and Katanning to Gnowangerup (81km, climbing 317m).
Riders can enjoy picturesque scenery along the way, from stunning views of the Stirling Ranges (particularly between Bluff Knoll and Mount Barker), to beautiful rolling hills and quiet farmland, to landscapes vibrant with native birdlife.

With ample food and accommodation options along the way, riders do not need to carry all their supplies for the trip, but should check the Wild Gravel website for a full outline of places to stock up.

The Wild Gravel Trail was inspired by Wild Gravel, a mass participation gravel cycling and running event established in 2024 in the Stirling Ranges. Last year’s event proved popular and Wild Gravel will return on 11 October 2025.

The Shire hopes the newly launched trail will draw gravel riding enthusiasts to explore the unique landscape of Gnowangerup at their own pace.

The trail will be open year-round, providing a fun and adventurous experience for all levels of rider.
