Police seek info on Warby Trail fire bug

Police are appealing for public assistance following a fire along the Warburton Rail Trail earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at the base of Mount Little Joe about 6.20pm on 13 April.

It is understood the fire, which is being treated as suspicious, started on the southern side of the trail before travelling up the side of Mount Little Joe.

Luckily, the fire was contained before it spread to nearby houses.

Officers have been told a man was seen in the area as the fire started and was seen fleeing from the area on foot just before emergency services arrived.

Yarra Ranges detectives are also keen to speak to a group of people in the area at the time who may have witnessed the fire being lit, as well as anyone who might have footage of the fire.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has CCTV/dashcam footage, or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
