La Trobe Street bike lane closes for 3 weeks

There will be a rare closure of the La Trobe Street westbound bike lane by the Metro Tunnel project from next Monday 12 May.

The lane will be closed at Swanston Street for a three-week period for curb and signalling works required on the southwest corner of La Trobe and Swanston streets, where the north-to-south pedestrian crossing will be widened in advance of the crossing re-opening.

Provision will be made for bike riders to join the westbound traffic lane, which will remain open.

There will be a merge point to the intersection where there will be a 'keep clear' box and signage for motorists to be aware of cyclists.

Bikes can rejoin the bike lane after the worksite.

Depending on the ultimate destination, some riders may choose to use Little Bourke Street westbound or, to the north, Queensberry Street.

Note that the long-closed eastbound La Trobe Street bike lane is now reopened between Elizabeth and Swanston.

Riders will notice that the footpath on Swanston Street between La Trobe and Little La Trobe Street is also re-opened.

The Swanston Street western footpath and northbound bike lane closure at A'Beckett Street remains in place as required during May except between 3pm and 8pm Monday to Friday and outside working hours.
