Summerleas Rd underpass open for riding

After many months of construction the Whitewater Creek Path underpass at Summerleas Road is now open for riding.

The means people can ride from Kingston to Huntingfield/Spring Farm without having to cross a road. New paths connecting the track to the sports precinct and high school increase the safety for riders of all ages.

The Tasmanian Government provided a $750,000 grant to Kingborough Council to help provide the critical link in its path network.

Bike Collective rolls out annual fundraiser

The Tasmanian Bike Collective has launched its annual fundraising raffle, with an array of prizes to suit bike riders of all stripes.

The prizes range from free accommodation in Derby and Hobart through to helmets, Henty bags and bar tape.

Coastal Pathway link through Turners Beach on the way

Work has started on a new 2.5m wide path through Turners Beach, filling one of the missing links in the Coastal Pathway.

Central Coast Council has started work on the path north of The Esplanade and is due to finish by the end of June: https://www.centralcoast.tas.gov.au/council-projects/turners-beach-coastal-pathway/

Once the work is finished, the Coastal Pathway will extend from Latrobe to West Ulverstone. Devonport Council is also working on a new path through Ambleside to connect Latrobe and Devonport which is due to be finished at the same time.

Volunteer cyclists needed

The new Cycling without Age program in Ulverstone needs more volunteer cyclists to help it get older Tasmanians into the open air.

Volunteer cyclists ride an electric rickshaw that carriers two older Tasmanians who can no longer ride themselves.

A training day is being held on 17 May between 9.30am and 12 noon at Gnomon Pavilion in Ulverstone. If you are interested in becoming involved contact Chris Fletcher on 0455 522 297.

Pipeline track closed for gravel top-up

A section of Pipeline Track on kunanyi/Mt Wellington will be closed on weekdays from Monday 12 May for drainage and surfacing improvements.

The track will be closed between the twin bridges and Fern Tree Creek Bridge between 7am and 4.30pm on weekdays but will be open at all other times. 

The work is due to be finished by 30 June.

School help needed at Road Safety Centre

TBUG is seeking volunteers to help with a school program for children from the Northern suburbs at the newly revamped Bike Centre on Thursday 15 May.

The session is taking place from 10am to 2pm at Lawrence Vale Road, South Launceston, with a barbeque lunch provided.
