Doncaster Park and Ride plans finalised

Additional facilities for bike riders have been included in the final designs for the Doncaster Park and Ride at the terminus of the new Eastern Busway.

In response to rider feedback, a bicycle repair station has been provided near the new Parkiteer, which will be located at the new passenger services building.

Bicycle hoops at each entry point are now located undercover for protection from the weather and large windows at the Parkiteer enable safer views in and out.

The 26 Parkiteer spaces and the 28 new bicycle hoops more than double the number of existing bicycle parking spaces, with space provided for more bicycle parking to be built in the future when needed.

Rider feedback had requested greater provision for heavier bikes and trailers so the Parkiteer will have more ground level spaces.

The upgraded Park and Ride will be staffed during operating hours and have CCTV 24/7 and lighting throughout.

The facility will connect with 11km of upgrades to Koonung Creek Trail for the first stage of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades – Burke Road to Tram Road.

The new Doncaster Road bridge will also make it easier to walk or cycle to the Park and Ride. There will be shared use paths along both sides of the bridge and easy access from the new underpass to the Park and Ride.

The new Eastern Busway will reduce bus travel times to the city by up to 30% for more than six million bus trips a year.

Three new bus platforms at the Park and Ride will make more space for express and connecting local bus services, and a new multi-level car park will work together with a second Park and Ride already built in Bulleen to double the number of parking spaces for the new Eastern Busway.

The Bulleen facility also has bike parking available.
