The Victorian Government is calling for feedback on 25 ‘activity centre’ zones around public transport nodes and corridors.
The consultation is feeding into draft plans that will guide where many of Melbourne’s new homes will go.
Last year, the state government launched the new activity centre housing concept across 10 suburban locations and feedback from that exercise showed that strong transport connections were uppermost in community expectations.
Now the government has rolled out 25 more 'train and train zone' activity centres for a first round of consultation.
Any current or potential bike riders with an interest in these zones should take a look, as these new precincts will be great environments for those who value heathy active transport.
They will be more dense, close to public transport, with facilities and attractions more accessible, and good paths and bike routes will be built-in.
Make sure you have a say. Consultation is open until 15 June.

The first 25 zones out for consultation have been grouped in similar areas to assist engagement with communities and councils. These zones sit along key public transport routes and are some of the best-connected suburbs in Melbourne.
● Cranbourne/Pakenham lines that will use the new Metro Tunnel: Carnegie, Hughesdale, Murrumbeena, Oakleigh, Middle Footscray, West Footscray, and Tottenham stations
● Belgrave/Lilydale Line: Hawthorn, Glenferrie, and Auburn stations
● Sandringham Line: North Brighton, Middle Brighton, Hampton, and Sandringham stations
● Glen Waverley Line: Tooronga, Darling, Gardiner/Glen Iris, East Malvern and Holmesglen stations
● Upfield Line: Brunswick and Coburg stations
● Hurstbridge Line: Heidelberg Station.
● tram corridors in Darebin: High Street, Thornbury and on St Georges Road near Beaconsfield Parade
● tram corridor in Boroondara: Kew Junction precinct served by the 109 and 48 trams.
The aim is to get planning processes streamlined and down to 12 months rather than a drawn-out process of up to five years.
Consultation on the remaining train and tram centres will begin later this year. Consultation for all 50 new centres is likely to be completed by early 2026.
