Melton region gets big funding boost

Melton on Melbourne's north-western fringes will see a major expansion of its bike networks following a major allocation in this week’s State Budget.

A total of $13.4 million has gone to a number of significant bike route developments in the region.

About $4.5 million will be spent on around 4km of safer and better connected paths on Station Road and Exford Road.

Station Road–Exford Road is a key local connector road, providing a direct and important connection for residents in Melton, Melton South and Weir Views into Melton the township, Melton Station and the shopping centre.

The project will complement improvements in local active transport access to be delivered as part of the Melton Station level crossing removal project and provide a direct and safe cycling connection between the station and Melton city centre.

Significantly, $8.9 million has gone towards 3km of development along two key strategic cycling corridors.

On the Melton Highway there will be shared path links to allow local trips to Watergardens Shopping Centre, local parks, local amenities and Watergardens Station, along with new paths along the Sunbury Line.
