The design of a proposed ramp to link Melbourne's Anniversary Trail to Mont Albert Road at Canterbury has been tweaked slightly as part of a funding application to the state government.
This attractive section of the trail has no links to the neighbourhood surrounding it. The proposed ramp could reduce the distance between access points from 900m to 370m along this stretch of the trail.
The ramp was originally proposed in 2022, and has been through a public consultation, a slight redesign and a feasibility study.
The City of Boroondara says a ramp at this location would:
- provide a connection between important east-west and north-south bicycle and pedestrian routes
- improve access, safety and security
- provide opportunities for local students to walk or ride to school
- deliver better access for emergency services when required
- meet disability standards.
There was a high level of support for the connection during the public consultation.
The new steel ramp would use black-coloured non-slip fibreglass decking panels and handrails with in-built lighting.
A suitable design would make it clear when the ramp ends, with use of materials both on the ramp and on the Anniversary Trail path that will ensure the connection operates safely and efficiently.
The concrete retaining wall would use dark grey rendering.
