Riders in and through Stonnington have a chance to influence the future shape of transport through Melbourne’s inner south-east as the city begins a review of its transport strategy.
The strategy is built on the three pillars of road safety, parking and active transport and sets out key directions and actions to respond to transport-related challenges and opportunities across the city.
Although Stonnington developed an Integrated Transport Plan in 2020 (now known as the Transport Strategy) the city is rapidly changing with more people living and working in the municipality, and escalating challenges with climate change, traffic congestion and road safety.
To help review the strategy, the city wants to hear about challenges you have experienced with:
- walking
- riding
- driving
- shared micro-mobility (shared e-bikes or e-scooters)
- public transport
The council says its new Active Transport Plan will focus on improving safety, connectivity, accessibility and uptake of active and sustainable travel options across Stonnington, while the Road Safety Action Plan will focus on improving the safety and accessibility of roads for everyone – whether you walk, ride or drive – with emphasis on the most vulnerable road users.
It will consider both the physical road environment and the behaviours of road users.
Riders can get involved by dropping pins where you see issues or opportunities for promoting active travel and safer roads at https://connectstonnington.vic.gov.au/transportstrategy
There is also a survey to fill in and opportunities to chat directly with the strategy team.
The consultation remains open during June, with a draft of the new strategy expected by November and a final version early next year.
