The Town of Cottesloe Council in western Perth is seeking feedback from bike riders on a concept plan for its marine path upgrade.
Cottesloe has secured $4.175 million from the federal government's Active Transport Fund to upgrade the existing footpath on Marine Parade (Curtin Avenue to North Street).
The upgrade will be delivered over four years with 95% of the anticipated design and construction costs covered by the funding.
The council has endorsed a concept plan and principles for public consultation before progressing to the detailed design phase.
The concept plan involves completing the shared path in three stages, beginning with the sections south and north of the foreshore precinct. The council will continue to source funding to build the last stage of the project.
The council plans to widen the existing path, which involves removing some parking bays. New bays will be created where possible to offset this removal.
The concept plan sees the existing path link up with the Eric Street Shared Path.
Further design investigation is needed in several complex areas, including the heavily pedestrianised areas such as beach access path entry points, around Dutch Inn playground and around North Cottesloe near the surf club and cafes. Public feedback received on these areas will be considered in future designs.
The council is now seeking feedback on the shared path plan from all users of Marine Parade, whether riding a bike, walking or driving.
Council is also seeking views on on-road cycling on Marine Parade and ideas for safety improvements that will be used for planning future road upgrades.
