Exploring new routes & bridging connections

The upcoming fortnight's social rides feature a new Hobart ride,  the chance to conquer the new Bridgewater Bridge (Thanks to the Department of State Growth for the main image) and celebrations for the ten-year anniversary of the TBUG Wednesday morning rides at the Carrick pub.

Agrarian Kitchen to Lachlan – Sunday 22 June

The 22km Agrarian Kitchen to Lachlan ride on Sunday 22 June provides a good workout in the bush before enjoying lunch afterwards.

Meet ride leader David at 9.45am outside the front of the Agrarian Kitchen in New Norfolk for a 10am start. The ride will take you from New Norfolk to Lachlan, then onto Myrtle Falls for morning tea, returning via the same route with lunch planned at the end at the Agrarian Kitchen.

Not suitable for road bikes with skinny tyres as there are some sections of gravel roads.

Seven Mile Beach Cambridge Loop – Saturday 28 June

The 20km Seven Mile Beach Cambridge Loop ride on Saturday 28 June takes you on a loop to Cambridge on mostly flat quiet roads and well-formed tracks.

Meet ride leader Brian at 9.45am at the Seven Mile Beach Lewis Park playground car park for a 10am start. This ride will suit all riders and all bike types, with coffee and chats afterwards at the new Seven Mile Beach Cafe.

Out of Latrobe – Sunday 29 June

The north-west riders are heading out of Latrobe on Sunday 29 June for a 30km loop taking in the shared pathway and rural roads.

Meet ride leader Rowan at 10.45am at the Bells Parade car park toilet area in Latrobe, ready to ride at 11am. The ride includes the shared pathway to Ambleside, through East Devonport then on rural roads through Wesley Vale back to Latrobe.

E-bike Coffee Cruise - Cascade and Collins Street – Friday 4 July

A new Coffee Cruise hits the streets on Friday 4 July, featuring the Hobart Rivulet trail and the new Collins Street bike lanes.

Join ride leader Di at 10.15am at Brooke Street Pier for this short and easy 8.9km ride. You'll filter through city streets and enjoy the serenity of the Hobart Rivulet trail, cruising back along the Collins Street bike lanes for coffee at the new streetside dining on Collins.

Extended Tranmere Trundle – Sunday 6 July

The 30km Extended Tranmere Trundle on Sunday 6 July is a moderate ride with a few hills and great downhills, mostly along the Clarence Foreshore Trail.

Meet ride leader David at 9.45am at the Simmons Park playground car park for a 10am start. The ride goes as far as Tranmere and above with great views! There will be time for morning tea at Pindos Park, Tranmere (bring a drink and snack), with lunch at a nice café on the way back.

E-bike Coffee Club | Over the Bridgewater Bridge – Thursday 17 July

Conquer the new Bridgewater Bridge on this exciting 35km E-bike Coffee Club ride on Thursday 17 July.

Join ride leader Di at 10am at the upper car park at Cornelian Bay to investigate the interim approaches and enjoy the views from the new paths. You'll discover a new coffee shop in Bridgewater for snacks or early lunch, with the option of stopping at Baked in Moonah for more treats on the return journey.

Pawleena Penna Circuits – Sunday 20 July

Explore the little-known countryside around Pawleena on this 30km circuit ride on Sunday 20 July, with an option for a shorter 17km route.

Meet ride leader David Atkinson at 9.45am at the large Woolworths car park in Sorell near McDonald's for a 10am start. The ride heads towards little-known Pawleena on a quiet country road (note this section is unsealed) and does the circuit back to Sorell – about 17km.

You can either finish here and have a coffee or continue with the group to do the Penna circuit which is mostly off-road on a dedicated bike track.

  • Wednesday 9 July: Carrick Whitemore Quamby (Estate) plus 10 year anniversary lunch at the Carrick pub after the ride, meet ride leader Helen at 9.45am at Carrick Public Hall, 29 Meander Valley Rd, 40km, 20–25km/h pace. 
  • Wednesday 16 July: Cressy to Poatina, meet ride leader Mick at 9.45am at the big fish, Main Rd, Cressy. 40km, 20–25km/h pace. 
Get involved in social rides

If you would like to be one of our social ride leaders, please email our Rides Coordinator with your contact details and what sort of riding you are interested in and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled.

You don't have to be super fit or into competitive riding, our rides are a mixed bag depending on the interests of our ride leaders. They offer everything from short 1–2 hour rides, with stops along the way, to day-long excursions.

Our ambassador routes have been developed by our social rides coordinator Di with help from other riders. It's another way of helping more people to ride if you don't have the time to run regular social rides.
