Five Western Australian councils have commissioned a feasibility study for a shared trail between Beverley and Narrogin.
The proposed 105km trail would connect five Wheatbelt towns, with the study commissioned by the shires of Beverley, Brookton, Pingelly, Cuballing and Narrogin.
With its rolling landscapes, charming small towns and long agricultural history, the Wheatbelt is an ideal riding environment.
The new trail could boost local tourism economies along the route and offer new outdoor recreation options for locals.
The feasibility study will look at different trail alignment options, find the best route, and provide construction details and cost estimates to help local governments apply for suitable funds.
The study will consider options for using the railway maintenance track, sections of which are within road reserves.
If developed, the trail could link to several existing and proposed future trails to both the north and south, ultimately strengthening the long-distance network.
Community consultation events will take place in the five major towns along the proposed route in August.
The feasibility study report is expected later this year.
