The City of Hobart has re-surfaced two popular Hobart trails to create a more comfortable riding experience.
Bumpy track smooths out
South Hobart residents have long used the fire trail extension of Marlyn Road as a riding and walking short-cut between the end of the Hobart Rivulet Path and Strickland Avenue. It helps riders to avoid heavier traffic and tight corners on Strickland Avenue and provides a safer walking experience too.
In October 2023 one rider started a petition to get the trail extension, known locally as the Bumpy Track, resurfaced to a better standard so more people could ride along it.
It attracted 216 signatures and a Hobart City Council meeting in June 2024 pledged to resurface the trail, which is owned by the Cascade Brewery.
The surface is still a little soft in places and several humps have been built across the track for better drainage so be careful when riding it for the first time.

Pipeline Track
The City of Hobart has also resurfaced a section of the Pipeline Track above Fern Tree between the twin bridges and the next bridge up.
Like the Marlyn Road top-up, there are still some soft patches in the middle of the track, so take it easy on the first pass.
Hopefully more resurfacing is to come for the rest of the track to iron out some of the rockier sections.

Hobart Rivulet Path
The City of Hobart is aware of rutting and mud problems along a 100m resurfaced section of the Hobart Rivulet Path.
The section was resurfaced just before winter but drainage issues from spring water have delayed the “hardening” of the new surface.
The maintenance team is endeavouring to roll the track after rain to try and prevent more rutting.
