The City of Darwin is seeking community feedback on its Draft Place and Liveability Plan 2050, which supports an increase in cycling infrastructure.
The plan sets out a roadmap to make Darwin a more liveable, inclusive, and sustainable city by 2050.
It outlines five long-term goals for Darwin: strengthening community participation and belonging, improving community safety for all, enhancing character and sense of place, revitalising public spaces, and reinforcing infrastructure networks.
The plan lays out several bike-relevant goals for Darwin, including:
- improving shared path connections
- introducing a program to improve wayfinding
- installing park-and-ride facilities, so people can park at train stations and catch public transport to school or work
- developing a long-term local area traffic program to make streets safer for pedestrians, riders and motorists
- upgrading local roads and streetscapes to create commercial and recreational opportunities
- developing “active paths” and “open streets” programs with local schools to encourage walking and riding to school and community engagement through street events.
Riders in the City of Darwin who would like to show support for these goals and make further suggestions can explore the draft plan and share their views here.
