$80,000 boost for WA Bike Month
More than $80,000 has been awarded in grants to support 72 events across WA Bike Month this October.

This year's month-long celebration promises to be bigger than ever, featuring grant-funded activities including bike tours, trail rides, scavenger hunts and bike safety and maintenance sessions.

Two major event grants have been awarded. The first has been awarded to Technology for Ageing and Disability WA, who will put together an all-abilities bike festival, offering an inclusive experience for people with a disability to learn to ride safely on road and path networks. The second has been awarded to the Shire of Gnowangerup for  Gnowangerup Community Gravel, a free gravel cycling event.

Forty-six schools are also among those to receive funding.

A full list of grant recipients can be found here.

A Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure initiative, WA Bike Month aims to offer people from across the state an opportunity to explore the cycle network and discover the joy and benefits of bike riding.

"WA Bike Month is our flagship celebration of bike riding and welcomes everyone, no matter age or ability, to hop on a bike, get involved and connect with their community," said Transport Minister Rita Saffioti.

"Interest and participation in WA Bike Month grows every year, and it's great to see the dedication of schools, local governments, community organisations and workplaces to host activities.

"The government is investing more money than ever before in active transport infrastructure, and WA Bike Month is a great occasion to experience our world-class paths and facilities, especially new additions like the incredible Boorloo Bridge.

"We want to make bike riding a safe, convenient and widely accepted mode of transport, and Bike Month is a great opportunity to make bike riding part of your routine."
