Cape Leeuwin Trail extension underway
Construction has begun on the next stage of the Cape Leeuwin Trail, marking a major milestone in the project of connecting central Augusta with the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

The 3.1-kilometre shared-use trail between Dead Finish and the Water Wheel Carpark will provide a scenic, accessible route for riders and walkers. It is expected to be completed later this year.

The extension is the result of more than two decades of community interest and more than a decade of planning.

During the trail's construction, Leeuwin Road scenic lookout and the carpark opposite Water Wheel will be temporarily closed.

Access points between Dead Finish and the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse may also be temporarily inaccessible. Signage will be in place.

"We're proud to be delivering a trail that's safe, scenic and accessible for all," said Shire of Augusta-Margaret River Council President, Julia Meldrum.

"By investing in an environmentally sensitive design, we're helping to protect what makes this place special while encouraging people to explore it respectfully."

The shared use trail is supported by a WA Bicycle Network Grant.
