Riding the highs and lows

This fortnight has a clear choice between the rides along Hobart’s flatter areas or heading into the hills, as well as the north-west monthly ride’s gradual but consistent rise from Burnie to Natone, and TBUG’s longer journeys from Longford and Cressy.

Knocklofty Kneetrembler – Sunday 31 August

Join ride leader David to climb the slopes of Knocklofty on Sunday 31 August in a 26km route.

Meet at the car park on McVilly Drive at 10am for a 10.15am start. This is a  challenging ride up to West Hobart then onto Mount Stuart via Mount Knocklofty, around to Lenah Valley, down the New Town Rivulet, and then back along the River Derwent.

It’s suitable for experienced cyclists, with a mixture of tracks and roads and some steep climbs. Your bike will need low gears (or electric assist) and tyres wide enough to go on gravel paths.

Please RSVP in case of cancellation via https://ridewithgps.com/events/363253-knocklofty-kneetrembler

Stowport Stomp – Sunday 31 August

Join ride leader Adrian for this month’s north-west ride, heading out of Burnie through Fernglade to Natone on Sunday 31 August.

Meet at the Burnie Yacht Club car park at 10.45am ready to ride at 11am. The route will take Fernglade, Stowport and Natone roads as well as the path connecting the yacht club. Could also include an extension via Glance Creek Road, or an early turnaround at Stowport for those looking for a shorter ride, while retaining the scenic Fern Glade Road.

Lunch afterwards, RSVP https://ridewithgps.com/events/396819-stowport-stomp

Join ride leader Di for the relaxed Cascade and Collins Street e-bike ride on Friday 5 September.

Meet at 10.15am at the front of Brooke Street Pier for the journey through the city centre to the Hobart Rivulet Path up to Cascade Brewery and back. This is an ideal ride for people wanting to build their confidence and knowledge of routes with the support of other riders.

TBUG Rides
Get involved in social rides

If you would like to be one of our social ride leaders, please email our Rides Coordinator with your contact details and what sort of riding you are interested in and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled.

You don't have to be super fit or into competitive riding, our rides are a mixed bag depending on the interests of our ride leaders. They offer everything from short 1–2 hour rides, with stops along the way, to day-long excursions.

Our ambassador routes have been developed by our social rides coordinator Di with help from other riders. It's another way of helping more people to ride if you don't have the time to run regular social rides.
