Preliminary planning is underway for the new overhead station being planned for Spotswood as part of the level crossing removal at Hudson’s Road.
The Level Crossing Removal Project is reaching out to
gather community insights about the station precinct and surrounding area to help shape the design process.
The Spotswood project has great potential to improve bike connections to nearby suburbs. The elevated rail over road bridge will enable bike route connection under the rail line through to a developing strategic corridor network that will connect west to the new developments in Spotswood, South Kingsville and Altona North.
The station is also located right on Hall Street, a future strategic cycling corridor that connects through to Newport and beyond to Williamstown.
And in the other direction, to the north, Hall Street will connect to the extensive network of new and upgraded bike infrastructure being delivered by the West Gate Tunnel Project, including a connection to the Veloway into the city, to the Federation Trail and to the Bay Trail West.
The project needs to be fully aware of these opportunities so that they can properly position and design the linkages that will make these existing and proposed routes attractive to riders.
