Maitland seeks active transport feedback
Maitland City Council is set to develop the city's first Active Transport Plan and is seeking community feedback on where future pathways and cycleways should be built.

The plan will shape the New South Wales city's active transport network for years to come, with the council hoping to maximise access to local hotspots and key facilities.

The long-term goal is to create a sustainable transport network, making walking and riding more efficient and convenient and in turn contributing to a cleaner environment, boosting the local economy and supporting healthier lifestyles.

The Active Transport Plan will replace the Maitland Bicycle Plan and Strategy 2014 and Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan 2017 and inform the council's forthcoming Integrated Transport Strategy.

Acting Director City Services, Darren Crumpler, said: "We want to know where there are missing links in our network, what infrastructure is needed in these areas and how we can encourage more people to walk or cycle for daily travel and recreation.

"The plan will also help us achieve Maitland's shared vision of a connected city with thriving communities.

"Whether it's a new or upgraded pathway, crossing or cycleway or ways we can improve safety and accessibility across the city, we want our community to have their say."

Maitland residents can share their feedback before Tuesday 7 October 2025 here.
