A section of Swanston Street will be closed next month at night for works to replace the street surfacing.

There will be no vehicle access between 8pm and 5am Monday to Thursday from Tuesday 30 September to late October between La Trobe Street and A’Beckett Street.

Riders may walk their bike on the footpath or take alternative routes.

During these works, the northern crossing at Swanston Street and La Trobe Street will be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained from the southern crossing.

During these works, pedestrians can only cross Swanston Street at the dedicated pedestrian crossings at Franklin and La Trobe streets

There will be no on street parking available on Swanston Street between La Trobe and A’Beckett streets during these works.

Activities include:

  • setting up the site
  • removing the existing road surface
  • installing bike separator kerbs
  • laying asphalt to form the new road surface
  • line marking the new road
  • Franklin Street bike lane works.

Riders should note that this week, 22–24 September, there will be night closures of the new bike lanes in Franklin Street for green colour treatment to be applied.

The works will be done in two stages, with the street closed to traffic at the Swanston Street end on Monday night and the Elizabeth Street end on Tuesday night.
