Hobart Bike Kitchen back in town
Hobart Bike Kitchen officially threw open its doors last Sunday for a lengthy workshop session, BBQ and speeches at its new site at the Hobart Tip Shop.
Volunteers at the kitchen help people to fix bikes, either their own or ones that have been donated to the kitchen, to help more people get riding.
They are looking for more volunteers to help others fix bikes, manage communications, catering, organisation or any other support for the workshop you can give: https://hobartbikekitchen.org/
Hobart Bike Kitchen President Paul Kennedy, chef Mark Parssey and Hobart councillor Ben Lohberger spoke on the day, and member for Clark Ella Haddad and Minister for Transport Kerry Vincent paid a visit.
Safer Roads for Cyclists look for count volunteers
North-west group Safer Roads for Cyclists is looking for volunteers to help them conduct a count of users on the Coastal Pathway on Sunday 9 November between 9 am and 12 noon.
They are still determining count points but are concentrating on getting data to help underpin the need to connect the missing links in the path.
If you can contribute your time, even if you can't attend for the whole three hours, contact Keith at klprice@bigpond.com.
Kingborough Mountain Bike Park to go next year
Kingborough Council has released plans for its sporting precinct following the decision to build an AFL High Performance Centre that will see the mountain bike park close down.
The current mountain bike park will become an oval and the mountain bike facilities will be incorporated throughout the precinct, including a pump track, jumps and flow trail.
The council has set up a newsletter to keep people updated as the changes occur, with the aim to get new trails in quickly, followed by jumps and pump track at the end of the project.
Tasmanian Bike Collective funding secured
The Tasmanian Government has confirmed core funding for the Tasmanian Bike Collective until 2029, allowing the community organisation to retain staff and focus on operations.
The Collective works with young people struggling at school to help them focus and control behaviour, using bike repair as the motivation. The bikes they fix up then get sold to help raise money.
