Yarraville intersection works
Riders on the busy Hyde Street and Sommerville Road routes in Yarraville should be alert to significant road works that are scheduled at the intersection of the two streets.

There are major upgrades planned for the traffic signals to accommodate the new design of the separated bike route along Yarraville Gardens on Hyde Street.

The works will be at night and over weekends this month and will have a major impact on motor traffic.

Bike riders will be able to use the intersection during the works, although there may be detours.

Overnight intersection works take place from Tuesday 14 October to Thursday 16 October, followed by works to take place over two consecutive weekends:

  • from 8pm Friday 17 October to 5am Monday 20 October 2025
  • from 8pm Friday 24 October to 5am Monday 27 October 2025.
The intersection will be closed continuously on those weekends.

During the second weekend of works, the closure of Hyde Street will be extended from Berry Street to Princess Street to complete asphalting along the new Hyde Street and Somerville Road shared walking and cycling path.

Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist pedestrians and bikes to travel through the intersections using normal routes. On various occasions, detours will be in place.

Activities include:

  • cutting and excavating sections of the road surface
  • removing the old traffic signal system beneath the road
  • installing the new upgraded traffic system
  • asphalting intersections and along the Hyde Street shared walking and cycling path.

Riders should note that occasional road and lane closures to prepare and facilitate sewage line and road works are ongoing until early October.

A short-term closure of the shared walking and cycling path along Whitehall Street will be place through early October. Detours are in place.
