Federation Trail update

The Federation Trail remains closed at Laverton North due to inundation.

As a result there are plans for further works on drainage in the area.

Complications emerged, with Greater Western Water identifying a leaking service connection within the stormwater network along nearby Lincoln Street, which was contributing to the flooding.

This fault has now been rectified.

Another recently discovered issue – drainage infrastructure on neighbouring land that is inadequate to handle the volume of water – will take longer to resolve.

Permission for works on that land will have to be granted before any activities can be undertaken.

In the meantime the contractor will clear the water from this section of the trail when possible, but otherwise it will remain closed.

Even when the parties have agreed on a plan for remediation of the drainage, the route may have to be closed when works are underway.

Contractors for Transport Victoria have provided a detour via Little Boundary Road and Pipe Road, but signage appears to have been vandalised.

An informal detour that some riders use is to take Kororoit Creek Trail northbound to the link to Silverton Close, then to Westside Drive, across to Pipe Road and then via the M80 Trail to the Federation Trail.

This avoids the Little Boundary Road arterial. Pipe Road still has trucks, so less confident riders should consider the footpath.
