As works on the Eastern Freeway upgrade continue to move east, so do the closures and detours of the adjacent Koonung Creek Trail.
The works, part of the massive North East Link Project, are now active between Tram and Middleborough roads in Box Hill and Doncaster.
From now until mid-2027, the Koonung Creek Trail will be closed south of the Eastern Freeway between Eram Road Bridge and Middleborough Road.
Riders are diverted onto local streets, connecting with the trail at Amaroo Court.
See map below for detailed route.
There is signage at key locations along the detour to assist with wayfinding.
Additionally, from 9pm Saturday 22 November to 12pm Sunday 23 November 2025, the Koonung Creek Trail will be temporarily closed between Eram Road Bridge and Amaroo Court, which will close access across to the trail on the north side.
This closure is necessary for United Energy to restring electrical cables onto newly relocated power poles.
Further east along the trail as far as Springvale Road, there will continue to be intermittent interruptions with vehicles crossing the trail under traffic management.
