Thousands of riders turned out for a great day at this year's United Energy Around the Bay despite the rain – once again proving the resilience and passion of the cycling community.
The iconic one-day Melbourne cycling event, now in its 31st edition, drew over 6,000 riders of all ages and abilities.
Riders taking on each of the five ride options – the 220km classic, the 135km Geelong start, the 100km, 50km, and Lap the Track family routes – started their ride in grey but dry conditions.
Rain set in mid-morning, but spirits remained high. For those crossing the finish line with mud on their shins and grins on their faces, it was certainly a day to remember.
Riders at this year's event included everyone from first-time riders to seasoned United Energy Around the Bay enthusiasts, including a handful of legends who have ridden every single year since the event's inception in 1993.
Participants included sporting celebrities, serious recreational cyclists, kids on balance bikes, and multi-generational and multi-family groups. The eldest participant was 93, while the youngest was just a few months old.
Bicycle Network CEO, Alison McCormack, said: "United Energy Around the Bay is always a spectacular day out, and this year was no exception.
"This year riders tackled a dramatic wet ride with good cheer, and enjoyed entertainment, vendors and food trucks at the Albert Park event village.
"We were thrilled to see such a range of ages and abilities on bikes and can't wait to do it all again in 2026."
