Two popular bike routes will be again impacted by tram works in Flemington and Ascot Vale in the coming weeks as Stage 2 of the construction steps up on new level-access tram stops on Union Road at Epsom Road.
The project, which also involves extensive track replacement works, will service the new G-class trams that will be deployed on route 57.
The major works stage will be underway from stage from 6 November 2025 until 14 November 2025. There will be lane and intersection closures nightly in Union Road from Dunlop Avenue to Burrowes Street.
There will be 24-hour welding works during this period as well as day-time site investigation works on Epsom Road between Union Road and Ascot Street.
Major works will be underway from 9pm Friday 14 November to 4.30am Monday 1 December 2025 (24-hour works) on Epsom Road from Langs Road to Ascot Street and Union Road from Epsom Road to Bloomfield Road.
During this time there will be road closures of sections of Union and Epsom roads.
Full details of these works will be available closer to the date.
There should be access for bike riders through the area during these works either on the road or by walking the bike along the footpath for a short distance.
To minimise traffic impacts, Epsom Road will have staggered road and lane closures between Langs Road and Ascot Street.
Signed detours will be in place for bike riders.
The footpaths will remain open during works with temporary detours in place.
Epsom Road will be closed to all traffic from 9pm Friday 14 November to 5am Monday 1 December, except from from 5am Wednesday 19 November to 1am Saturday 22 November (westbound lane only) and from 4am Monday 24 November to 7am Saturday 29 November.
Ascot Street remains open to left turn movements only onto Epsom Road. Union Road will be closed between Epsom Road and Bloomfield Road. Francis Street will remain open to east–west traffic.
There will be service changes to tram route 57 with buses replacing trams.
