Mountain bike enthusiasts across the country will have a new reason to travel to Western Australia with the completion of a major trail network.
Construction is now finished on Stage 2 of the Dwellingup Mountain Bike Trail network, with Stages 1 and 2 together offering 68 kilometres of world-class trails through the region's distinctive forests and lush valleys.
The network includes green, blue and black trails, promising a great day out for riders of all abilities.
The trail network was funded by two ongoing initiatives: the Dwellingup Adventure Trails and the Dwellingup Gap projects, funded by local and state government bodies.
Together, these multimillion-dollar initiatives have to date resulted in several wins for mountain bikers, including a 40 kilometres of new trails in Lane Poole Reserve and upgrades to the existing Marrinup and Turner Hill trails in addition to the 68 kilometres of the Dwellingup Mountain Bike Trail network.
The new and upgraded trails have attracted national and international events to the region, including the UCI Masters Mountain Bike World Championships event.
Environment Minister, Matthew Swinbourn, said: "The combination of getting close to nature while being active makes this extended trails network a wonderful asset for the wellbeing of Western Australians.
"We know this state's abundance of nature-based tourism opportunities is a major reason why tourists come to our state, so this attraction is also a great draw card for visitors."
