The New South Wales Government has announced a new round of active transport grants available for the 2026–2027 financial year.
The Get NSW Active program provides councils with funding for projects that make it easier, safer and more convenient for people to choose riding or walking to get around.
A total of $60 million is available for the 2026–2027 round, with $10 million of that amount dedicated to Get Kids Active projects, which enable walking or riding to school.
Councils can make up to three submissions (in total, not per category) to fund any of the following:
-
active transport strategies or plans (minimum $30,000, maximum $100,000)
-
feasibility assessments, concept designs and detailed designs (minimum $50,000, maximum $1 million)
-
project construction (minimum $100,000, maximum $5 million; maximum $2 million for proposals to undertake multiple construction projects under one grant and maximum $800,000 for Get Kids Active grants)
-
Active Routes to School initiative (up to $50,000)
Funding is available for separated bike paths, shared paths, quietways and walking connections (including new or widened footpaths, raised crossings, continuous footpaths, treatments, kerb extensions, reallocation of road space to walking space, and shared zones).
Each funding request submitted can be for a single stage only.
Interested parties can read the full grant guidelines
here.
Bicycle Network encourages New South Wales riders to consider bike routes or facilities in their area that could benefit from an upgrade and ensure their local council is aware of the grants program.
Applications close at 4pm on 12 December 2025 and successful applicants will be announced in April/May 2026.
