Sassafras landslip works completed

Riders can again ride unencumbered through Sassafras on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road now that the major landslip has been repaired.

Both lanes are open and there is now a sealed shoulder in both directions.

The landslide, near Mason Grove and the Sassafras Creek, was the consequence of severe weather in July 2024.

The repairs were complicated as the road corridor was also the route of numerous underground services, including an undocumented gas main that had to be capped and relocated.

Because of the steepness of the site a retaining wall had to be constructed to support the rebuilt road.
