The 1880s heritage bluestone bridge over the Kororoit Creek bridge in Brooklyn has received a spruce-up.
The bridge now carries the Kororoit Creek Trail over the creek, but once comprised part of the road from Melbourne to Geelong.
The City of Hobsons Bay undertook the project with support from the Victorian Government through the West Gate Tunnel Project's West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.
Works include structural repairs to ensure and extend the life of the bridge along with the provision of lighting on the abutments and the top of the bridge and other minor modifications which will improve accessibility.
The trail along this section of the creek now connects through to the Federation Trail a short distance to the north, following the construction of a missing link by the West Gate Tunnel project. The Federation Trail connects through to Werribee.
From Brooklyn, the Kororoit Creek Trail northbound is currently continuous through to Ardeer, but eventually will take riders through Burnside and Caroline Springs to Aintree as developments proceed to the west.
To the south the trail goes as far as Barns Road in Altona North, and with the help of state government funding, Hobsons Bay City is currently working on plans to take it through to the Bay at Altona.
